Typical macho man marries typical good-looking woman and after the wedding, he laid down the following rules:

‘I’ll be home when I want, if I want and at what time I want and I don’t expect any hassle from you.
I expect a great dinner to be on table unless I tell you that I won’t be home for dinner.
I’ll go hunting, fishing, boozing and card-playing when I want with my old buddies and don’t you give me a hard time about it. Those are my rules! Any comments?’

His new bride says,

‘No, that’s fine with me. Just understand that there will be sex here at seven o’clock every night whether you’re here or not.’ ;>

She comes to the phone after many rings, and the irritated husband says,

‘What took you so long to answer the phone?’
She says, ‘I was in bed.’ ‘In bed this early, doing what?’
She says,’ Getting a second opinion!’

A man has six children and is very proud of his achievements. He is so proud of himself, that he starts calling his wife, ‘Mother of Six’ in spite of her objections. One night, they go to a party. The man decides that it’s time to go home and wants to find out if his wife is ready to leave as well.

He shouts at the top of his voice, ‘Shall we go home ‘Mother of Six?’
His wife, irritated by her husband’s lack of discretion, shouts right back,
‘Anytime you’re ready, Father of Four.’

Marriage – Part V

The Silent Treatment
A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment.

Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE),
he wrote on a piece of paper, ‘Please wake me at 5:00 AM.’
He left it where he knew she would find it.
The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight.
Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn’t wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, ‘It is 5:00 AM. Wake up.’

Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests.
God may have created man before woman, but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece.

Anyway don’t think too hard, it is just a joke

Laugh Out Loud!

Today, all of Balinese staff including myself is celebrating Galungan here at Parrot Cay. We’ve been started the preparation from couples days ago. All off Balinese women are busy in preparing offering which is made from young coconut leaves, flowers & fruits. While the man has to provide all the material for the offering and also cooking special Galungan dishes, such as ‘lawar’ (delicate combinations of various vegetables, herbs, spices) and ‘sate’( skewers) and ‘Jukut Ares’ (banana trunk vegetable soup). Everybody is taking apart with a high enthusiasm.

All preparation ready, it is times to change our clothes with our Balinese traditional costumes.

Women are wearing long sleeve shirt named ‘kebaya’ with ‘sarong’ as a skirt while men are wearing white shirt, sarong as a pant and ‘udeng’ on the head. See pictures below, isn’t it cute?

We wait until everybody back from work. We are all gathering in Shambhala Lake. Offering place on the altar or shrine and incense is lightening up. Seems Balinese festive atmosphere travels to Caribbean.:)

We start with singing Religious song called “Warga Sari” and followed by Puja or “Tri Sandya” Everybody are chanting Om, Om,Om…feeling so peaceful… Wishing God bless us and forgive our sin.

At last, we are asking for forgiveness to each other and then enjoying Balinese cuisine at staff hang out village at ‘cengblonk’. A non-Hindu are also invited to come enjoying our special Galungan dishes. My mind, soul and spirits fly back to Bali…feel like home to me…

We had some fun games sponsored by Welfare Manager, Boutique and also donation from staff member. We also invited our Indonesian neighbors who live in the main island at Provo to join the celebration.

At day time we geared up for fun games. Started with shack race, eating sausage contests, volley ball and “dangdut’ football (football combine with dance and music), and the most significant game ‘Panjat Pinang’ (Climbing a palm trunk).

Climb a palm trunk? Well, where we can have this stuff in this island? Didn’t want to miss the fun, we use pipe instead. The pipe was well greased with a mixture of clay and oil. At the top are hung various prizes like phone cards, shirts, cigarette etc.  Whoever makes it to the top wins the prize. Hence everybody climbing each other and struggling to reach the goal. Even though it is slippery and muddy, a good time is had by all, especially the crowd watching the gaiety.

At night we were having fun at our staff Bar, “Barong”. One of the eldest read Indonesian Declaration of Independence Text.

We, the Indonesian people, hereby declare the independence of Indonesia.

Matters concerning the transfer of power, etc., will be carried out in a conscientious manner and as speedily as possible.

Afterward we proceed with cutting ‘Nasi Tumpeng”. Guitar and drum were played and we sung our Indonesian National theme ‘Indonesia Raya” and followed by our National Heroic Song.  Everybody was having a good time and so much fun. We were dancing and singing with joy with a hope “May the spirit of our hero keep alive forever!”

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

(‘Merdeka’ means independence, it became a battle-cry for those demanding independence from the colonial.)

That evening when I was helping one of my best friends packing to move to other new work place, I got unexpected phone call from my sister home. That same morning I was calling home to check the condition of my dad who had stroke and I don’t know why I reminding her over n over to call me if anything happen to dad. I never really expect that she will call me back in the same evening with that terrible news. It was a miserable feeling, I was screaming, crying and I don’t know how to describe my felling was. I kept saying “no…no…no… please don’t tell me that, why dad leave me this soon, why daddy cannot wait for me, why no goodbye….” with tons of regrets. It was a nightmare. I hate myself and thing that made my heart even worst I wasn’t there when my dads pass on. Guilty, upset, regret, mad, and all miserable feeling came…And I could not get home that night, which hurts me even more.

This is maybe the worst parts when you work and live miles away from home. My company tried to get the faster flight possible and was only confirmed that I get a flight home in the next two days in which I will only arrive 5 days after, and it was too late. I could not see him on his very last day. In my Balinese tradition, when there is a big ceremony in your village and you have somebody die, you cannot keep the dad body at home. My family has to bury him as soon as possible. And I have no choice. My mom was trying to comfort me. She was trying to be strong but I know all of my families get hurt. I never could see my daddy anymore not his dad body even so. It was so painful and very hard but that is life. I know we all must go and leave this earth for other thing God chooses us to do. I just regret all the situation, condition, time, circumstances and so on. I feel it is too early for him and for family. Maybe that was the best so my daddy wasn’t suffering anymore but I still could not believe it happen this fast. I am so sorry to him that I cannot be on his side on his very last day. As if I could turn back the time…

When I listen to this song, my mind is turn me back over to that sad moment…

I wish I could forget the nightmare at times, but it is so hard. “I miss you so much Daddy!” I know my moms, my brother and sisters do too. I wish I had spent more time with him when he was well. I wish I had told you how sorry I was for all those days you wanted to spend time with me and I always had an excuse. I wish I had those happy memories as a child all back again. I would do so many things differently. I can never thank you enough for everything you ever did for me. I just wish you were still here with me. But I believe he is in heaven watching over me now.

When we talk about Love it arouses different perception and definition. The meaning of Love offers and explains a definition of love in a way that is interesting, intense, clear, logical, and meaningful.

When you fall in love with someone, I bet that you will do anything to make the one you love happy. However, Love will make you happy if only you could understand what Love is. Love can have such a great happy ending but not rare that love end up in a sad or tragic way.

Once people misunderstanding about Love, then there the problems begin. Love Disorder happen uncontrolled. Love lack of order, then Love turns to a disaster.The history of our world has witnessed many such events. Love change to obsession and also such an abrasives action. There has been hatred, sibling rivalry and the worst part people killing each other in the name of Love. We’ve been seen this scene and dilemmas every day. But Love is not responsible for that. It is us who have forgotten the meaning of Love and have undertaken such gruesome apathy.

“Fatal attraction” that played last night on one of TV channel gave us ideal pictures of Love disorder. This movie stars by Michael Douglas, Glenn Close and Anne Archer. This thriller is about a married man who has a weekend affair with a woman who refuses to allow it to end and who becomes obsessed with him. How love turned to murderous obsession. Read synopsis.

I believe none of us would like to have a Love disorder, Fatal attraction and or unhappy ending love story. Even though it might happen once to you, just remember that True Love will always there for you . No matter how you feel, see and use it, Love is an eternal truth in the history of us. Let ‘s leave it grows as its origin.

Balinese dance is greatly different from western modern dance neither or Carribean dance. It has its own unique. Start from the costumes, the movements, the music and also the story behind the dance. The movement is closely associated with the rhythms produced by the traditional percussion or in Bali called gamelan. Multiple levels of articulations in the face, eyes, hands, arms, hips, and feet are coordinated to reflect layers of the gamelan sounds itself. Hand positions and gestures are nonetheless as important parts of the dance. The story mostly is telling about Balinese way of life, their flora and fauna and also about Hindu’s epic.

Last December’07, I and some of my Balinese colleagues had chance to show off our very own Balinese dance. The stage was set up just like how you see a festival stage in Bali, decorated by coconut leave, offering and also covered with gold paint cloth or Balinese called Prada. (Prada is a name of one of Balinese textiles; it has no relation with the Italian high-fashion brand PRADA, Don’t mixed up…!)

About two hours time, the guests either regular guest or homeowner which included some of Hollywood celebrities (sorry I cannot reveal the name on this page) were spoiled by the performance.

The first dance was Panyebrama Dance or Welcome Dance.

Panyebrama Dance

Panyebrama is a Balinese Dance of welcome. It permits the dancers to welcome the guests and to pay them homage with a rain of flower petals. The hospitality and friendliness conveyed through the smiles of the dancers.

Afterward followed by Tenun Dance or Waving Dance.

Tenun Dance

Dance by a single women that portrayed how Balinese prepare threads and how they warp the loom. You will see the pictures of how Balinese do the traditional Balinese woven textile.

The third or the last dance performed was Belibis Dance or Young Herons Dance.

This dance is telling two young herons with their mother in the middle of a pond flying around and looking for food.

“The show was fabulous! Beyond Belief… Hopefully I can show them some more… “

If you are interesting to know about Balinese dance, here are brief stories of some other well known Balinese Dances that is more than worth to see when you have chance to visit my homeland Bali…

BARONG : Barong is probably the most well known dance. It is a story narrating the struggle between good which personified as a semi lion creature (Barong) and evil which symbolized by a Witch (Rangda).

KECAK : Kecak is a spectacular dance usually performed at night, surrounding a bonfire. There can literally be one hundred or more bare chest men, sitting down on the ground surrounding the bonfire, led by a priest in the middle. The only music to accompany them are the beats of their palms hitting their chests, their thighs, or other parts of their bodies, or their claps, rhythmically accompanied by shouting and chanting ‘Chak-kechak-kechak-chak’.

REJANG : Danced by females, Rejang dance is a procession of those who have just barely learned to walk to those who can barely walk, moving in a slow and stately fashion towards the altar, twirling fans or lifting their sashes.

BARIS : Literally means warrior formation. This is a warrior dance usually danced by men. The movements are dramatic. It is hard to distinguish whether it is the dancer that follows the orchestra, or the other way around. You could say that they both go off into their own dimensions, yet at certain well-defined times meet to create an astounding tapestry.

JANGER : Janger is performed by young girls. Peacock crown shaped headwear made from intricately woven gold-colored, dried coconut leaves rests gallantly on their heads. The girls are open shouldered, dressed in a piece of cloth wrapped around the chest, and a batik wrap on the waist down. Most of the dances are performed sitting down, with highly coordinated hand, shoulder, and eye movements.

OLEG TAMBULILINGAN : This is a Balinese dance that evokes the love between two bumblebees

TARUNA JAYA : This Balinese dance expresses the character of a young man who is proud and sure of himself, in the prime of his life. “Taruna” means “young man” and “Jaya” means “victorious”. But his mood changes quickly, sometimes he is smiling and sometimes angry or provocitive. This dance is from Northern Bali known for its fast and dynamic music.

LEGONG : Legong is the most feminine dance and graceful dance. It is ussually danced by prepubescent girls.

KEBYAR : Kebyar is usually danced by two women with beautiful, long, shiny black hair, accentuated at the top by a band of cempaka blossoms. Fans on one hand, they move dramatically. Feet are strongly grounded, and hands and feet move abruptly.
